June 30, 2024

This week Hinckley finished his UVU acting camp and we enjoyed seeing his performance of The Tempest on Friday. It was a big commitment over the last two weeks, but he did a great job and learned a lot! He did great in his swim meet on Saturday in Lindon and is starting to develop good friendships on the team. He is enjoying the beginner gains of cutting large amounts of time off his races. He dropped 16 seconds in the IM since the beginning of June!

Addie and Greyson had a lot of fun with friends this week. They enjoyed the Lehi Roundup (local festival) activities on Saturday raking in a bunch of candy and such. Addie bought a Harry Potter wand she is very excited about. Greyson and I had a fun date to the Lehi Rec center where we played basketball in the water. His mind was blown! Kassie took the kids to Inside Out 2 on Monday and they really enjoyed that. Greyson hosted a small "basketball camp" for his friend and his little sister. He was able to get a few other friends involved. He had his whistle going and was kind enough to give them breaks sometimes. He even created a hand-drawn completion certificate for them! It was really cute, and the mom of the friend and younger sister told us they were waking up each morning ready to go to "camp" and get coached by Greyson haha.

Desmond is growing fast and showing lots of smiles and laughs. He is doing pretty good with his naps, but hates going to bed for the night and cries for a very long time. Everyone is watching his development eagerly. Greyson almost always comments in the morning at how much Des has grown!

We enjoyed a full fun week with cousins this week! It was fun to see how much Greyson and the Tiechert boys got along. They ran all around doing all sorts of things at our house, at 1220 Locust, and at the Provo pool too. We enjoyed celebrating Abi and Henry's birthdays as well.

On Wednesday Hinckley and I had a fun date at the Scera outdoor theater to see E.T. it was his first time and I hadn't seen it in so long I hardly remembered anything. He is doing a theater camp this week and next at UVU, doing a sci-fi version of The Tempest. He seems to be enjoying that other than the large chunk of time each day it takes.

Addie had a lot of fun with cousins and friends this week. She got to have a sleepover with some of the girl cousins which was a huge highlight for her. She came with Hinckley and me to DI (buying some clothes for Hinckley's costume) and she was delighted to buy some clothes with her own money. The joys of thrifting are real!

Greyson has developed a new fascination with King Kong. This week we got the 1933 version from the library and he watched the whole thing with great interest. He loved the time with his cousins and is so happy to have cousins his age to run about with.

Desmond has been growing quickly and is cutting his first tooth already! He is struggling to go to sleep each night and was pretty sad with his shots at the doctor this week. His big smiles reward us in our daily efforts to give him what he needs.

On Saturday our HOA sponsored a "Kids Market" and this year we had a booth called "Williams World". Kassie led the kids in making bath bombs and garlands to sell, and they also had other fun toys available. Each kid also sold individual items including hand-drawn pictures from Greyson, "Nicknacks" from Addie's dresser top, and Hinckley's Pokemon cards. The Pokemon cards were a hit and Hinckley had many returning young customers. Addie sold all her stuff and Greyson even managed to sell 2 pictures. It was a success. Afterward, I went to my first pickleball tournament. It was a lot of fun and though we got out pretty quickly we still got to play 7 games which was great!

Another week of summer flew by. Desmond is growing at a very quick pace, and continues to have good and bad nights. Those good ones sure help! He has been smiling much more and that enchants everyone. He is most happy in the morning after he's been fed and changed and is well rested.

Greyson has had many video production ideas this week and is eager to produce his next movie: The Haunted Lagoon. He is fascinated by the idea of movie ratings and has already pushed up against my personal policy of not making movies with blood in them. He'll have to find another videographer I suppose. He is reading up a storm and has also recorded many more "podcasts". He was overjoyed to see cousins James and Henry this week saying, "It was the best time I've every had, Dad". I was sorry to miss it but look forward to seeing the Tiechert crew soon.

Addie and I had a fun activity this week for a joint Girls Activities event for fathers and daughters. It was western themed and we had a small BBQ and played yard games (sack races, etc.). She was very eager to show her friends her new bangs she got from her recent hair cut. She and Kassie had a fund date on Saturday buying treats and make-up together. She finished the Harry Potter books and started Anne of Green Gables, we'll see if she can make it through that one! She had fun watching Studio C and Dude Perfect with Hinckley in the evening on Saturday. These tweens are starting to show signs of the late night energy of teenagers-soon-to-be.

Hinckley continued to swim this week but didn't have a meet. He is watching a playlist of Brandon Sanderson videos on YouTube to learn about writing novels and his working on a big story of his own. He is also learning biology on Khanmigo (Khan Academy + AI) and it is neat to hear him talking about what he is learning. He and Greyson and Kassie watched some more of the NBA playoffs when Addie and I were out and seemed to enjoy it. I think the enjoy the commercials as much or more than the games themselves.

I enjoyed going up to a service project at the Theater of the Pines (near Aspen Grove) for the monthly Strenuous Life gathering on Saturday. We helped install a couple more benches since many have been rotting away. I was excited to find I have earned my "handyman" badge in addition to my "community service" badge (thanks to all the basketball coaching and swim meet volunteering). It's fun to participate in those activities still when I can.

More pillow case making

Kassie made some pillow cases with the kids, they each picked out fabric they liked and were very excited to sleep on their pillows this week! Addie picked Harry Potter, Greyson picked Goosebumps, and Hinckley - Space. I had a fun Father's Day today with tofu breakfast burritos in the morning and some great gifts from the kids and a new set of Pickleballs from Kassie. It was great!

June 9, 2024

Another week of summer flew by! The kids had more time with friends, time in the pool, and enjoyed a "Spinkler" party at some neighbors. Desmond is getting a little more predictable with his schedule which when he keeps to it is amazing. He has started to give us more smiles, especially after he's had lots of sleep and food. The kids continue to dote on him like crazy and love to ohh and awe at him.

Greyson had a 3-day basketball camp this week and had a blast with that. We also watched some of Game 1 of the NBA finals and he enjoyed that too. He doesn't have the same B-ball fever he did about a year ago, but he still enjoys the game and is interested in it. He really has the reading bug and is trying to read a book almost any time you look around. He also loves tormenting his siblings and finding new ways to express very big feelings (aka throws massive fits on a regular basis). We are all growing in new ways every day.

Happy summer 6 year old

Adelaide had a fund date with Grandma and Grandad Burnside this weekend and went up to SLC to spend the night with them. They went swimming and enjoyed homemade ice cream and more. Everyone has had a turn now with them so balance has been restored! Also this week Addie started her math tutoring sessions at the Lehi Literacy Center and is really enjoying it. The volunteers have some great activities and groups set up and she genuinely looks forward to going which is a blessing.

Hinckley had lots of time with friends this week, including bringing his friend Logan with the rest of the family to the Saratoga Springs Splash Bash event which involved playing in lots of foam and getting hosed down (gently) by the fire department. He had his first official swim meet on Saturday and won his heat 3 times (including a Freestyle relay). He was floating on air after that. Pretty great!

Kassie and I had a fun date getting Thai food and playing pickleball...I think it was our first time out together since Desmond has joined us which was nice. Work is going pretty well and we are full into summer schedules now.

TMA 185 3 minute film

The final product of "make me a match" that I labored over exceedingly. I was actually sort of unhappy with it all not because of the performances of anyone but mainly just the story. We had to write all so quickly and the re-write it time after time and then storyboard it and really break it down. In all this rush I didn't realize till I was actually shooting it that I really didn't care much for the story as a whole and thus my motivation suffered greatly. I don't think I need to tell epic dramatic tales to care about them but I do want to have a strong point and also a specific conflict or issue that is approached and resolved. I am starting a screen writing class tomorrow and possibly I will gain some insights as to how to develop good stories. Ones that I care about. I don't know why I feel so interested in telling stories - particularly in that I haven't felt very confident with the stories I have come up with. It is extremely hard for me to come up

Hinckley's Two Month Update

I can't believe it has only been two months since Hinckley joined our family! It feels like a lot longer than that and he is growing so big way too fast! At his two month check-up today, he weighed 13 lb 12 oz and was 26 1/4 inches long. Apparently he is so tall that he is off the medical charts for his age. Hinckley is such a happy, easy-going baby. He smiles, laughs, and coos a lot. Having him in our family is so fun because he helps us realize the joy of everything once again. He smiles at bright colors or new sounds, enjoys kisses and cuddling, and squeals in delight at seeing nature when we take walks. Yesterday at church it was like he had a rubber neck; for about five minutes he just kept turning back and forth to take it all in--the sights, sounds, and smells. Today he had to get three shots at the doctor's office and even that didn't phase him for long. Oh he screamed and his face got redder than I have ever seen it. I held him and fed him afterwards and then

Almost There!

Tomorrow is our baby's due date! We don't think he will come tomorrow, but one never knows. Here are some pics from this week. School is going pretty well for me, though I transition to writing/reading from doing math for the past two weeks so I am a little nervous about that. The view from the bus just before I get off and start teaching for the day. Usually I am barely awake at this point.  Awesome panorama of our classroom. It has taken a lot of work to get all this stuff up, but it could still use lots more! Here is a view of the front of the classroom, along with our space ship behavior chart and so forth.  I decided to see what would happen if I didn't shave during the week This was the result.  Kas is feeling quite big, and ready for the man child to come out!
