June 2025

This week was the Lehi city festival called the "Lehi Roundup". We went to the Rodeo on Thursday night with Kassie's parents and on Saturday morning Kassie and the younger kids went to the parade and got "truckloads" of candy. Hinckley had two swim meets and had some great PRs and good experiences. He also went fishing at the nearby pond with his old friend Tyler from his previous elementary school and had a movie night with another friend. Addie and Greyson had a fun week at an art camp sponsored by our neighbor. They really love doing things like that together and reminds them that they are great friends for the most part.

Greyson wants to play baseball everyday and we've somewhat established a routine when I get off work to go over to the park and play. I bring Desmond along who usually chews on sticks and hits trees/leaves in the shade while I pitch the ball to Greyson - he'll hit it and run all the bases that he sets out and loves sliding to them while yelling "safe!" Desmond has started consistently standing upon his own and looking very proud of himself. He also figured out how to turn around and go down stairs. He's becoming more curious and points at everything while grunting.

Kas and I had a fun date on Saturday evening going to a "throw studio" in Provo where you can make a piece of pottery. It was hard! But we had a lot of fun with that. Kassie and Addie also had a fun date going to "The Selfie Museum" - a place that has a bunch of different backdrops and props arranged for attendees to use to take fun pictures together. They had a blast and came home with remnants of glitter confetti in their hair.

This last week we enjoyed visits with Bekah and Clair, time with the Kays, a hike up Provo Peak with Hinckley and Logan, a primary day-camp to "This is the place" for Addie, lots and lots of baseball at the park with Greyson, and Desmond discovering his tongue and how to point at things.

On Friday we drove down to Brian Head near Cedar Breaks and enjoyed some hikes and time with Kassie's parents. Despite the insane wind we were able to have some good times - and it was the first time for all of us in that part of the state.

This was a big week for Hinckley as he had his first young men's camp, this one was up at Wallsburg. He had blast! They did archery, axe throwing, spooky stories around the fire, a service project building fences, hiking, portrait drawing, and much more. He seemed to have a really good experience and developed stronger friendships with other Deacons.

The happy camper

Addie finished her tennis lessons and despite a hard day doing "games" she stuck with it to the end and overall seemed to enjoy it. She spent the night with the Burnsides in SLC and had a lot of fun with them. We all went to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers museum up there before dropper her off. Pretty amazing stuff up there!

Greyson finished his baseball season and spent many days playing with his buddies in the neighborhood. They were running around non-stop and all red-faced. Desmond continues to flirt with standing with no support and likes our big reactions. But he's more comfortable just relying on us to get where he wants haha.

I moved Hinckley in with Greyson and put together the undaunted old Walmart bunk bed...and I'm moving down in the room on the main floor as an office for work. We'll see how that turns out for everyone, but for now I'm pretty excited about it!

It was a happy father's day today with tofu burritos in bed this morning, some fun gifts from the family including a few thoughts on video, and a tasty enchilada dinner. It was a great day :)

This week I was in Austria/Germany for work and visiting Mom and Dad. It was great to see them in their element! Things went well at my work session as well. Meanwhile on the home front Kassie carted the kids to sport camp (Greyson), swimming (Hinckley), tennis (Addie), and many other activities such as an Aviary in SLC, Heber Creeper with Kassie's parents, a hike or two with friends, the final week of swimming lessons, and more. Greyson had a big catch in his baseball game that he was excited about. Addie and he were both proud of their successful passing of the next swim lesson level, and Hinckley achieved a "B" time in his latest meet in the 50 free - a goal he's been working on for a long time! Desmond has discovered how fun it is to throw things. And when he gets really excited he forgets to throw and instead drops the item down the back of his shirt! He loves all the attention he gets and continues to flirt with walking and talking.

Hinckley's Two Month Update

I can't believe it has only been two months since Hinckley joined our family! It feels like a lot longer than that and he is growing so big way too fast! At his two month check-up today, he weighed 13 lb 12 oz and was 26 1/4 inches long. Apparently he is so tall that he is off the medical charts for his age. Hinckley is such a happy, easy-going baby. He smiles, laughs, and coos a lot. Having him in our family is so fun because he helps us realize the joy of everything once again. He smiles at bright colors or new sounds, enjoys kisses and cuddling, and squeals in delight at seeing nature when we take walks. Yesterday at church it was like he had a rubber neck; for about five minutes he just kept turning back and forth to take it all in--the sights, sounds, and smells. Today he had to get three shots at the doctor's office and even that didn't phase him for long. Oh he screamed and his face got redder than I have ever seen it. I held him and fed him afterwards and then ...

Dishes

It is that time of day when the house is quiet, the table is half covered in pots, pans, and tuber ware with food scattered across. The car isn’t in the garage and the dog lies sleeping on the blue blanket. The sun lies somewhere back there, behind the cloud over those mountains. It makes some nice gold colors on the rocky face of the mountains outside of the window. I guess it is so nice because at this time of year there is a lot of plants and flowers in the back yard so the gold makes it seem sort of dreamlike. Yeah, I’ll do em I guess. Call it being nice or being bored. Does it matter? Approaching the sink I am nipped by the denting smell. The eggshells, scraps of mango, carrot peel, and chunks of tofu drip in my fingers. Oh yes, the trash is under the sink these days. Drip once, drip twice on the floor. The water in the frying pan trembles, shaking the crusty flakes of burnt egg. Yogurt and peanu...

TMA 185 3 minute film

The final product of "make me a match" that I labored over exceedingly. I was actually sort of unhappy with it all not because of the performances of anyone but mainly just the story. We had to write all so quickly and the re-write it time after time and then storyboard it and really break it down. In all this rush I didn't realize till I was actually shooting it that I really didn't care much for the story as a whole and thus my motivation suffered greatly. I don't think I need to tell epic dramatic tales to care about them but I do want to have a strong point and also a specific conflict or issue that is approached and resolved. I am starting a screen writing class tomorrow and possibly I will gain some insights as to how to develop good stories. Ones that I care about. I don't know why I feel so interested in telling stories - particularly in that I haven't felt very confident with the stories I have come up with. It is extremely hard for me to come up ...
