Colorado Summer

Well, I can't say that my time in Colorado has been that eventful yet. I am feeling very pregnant and uncomfortable. As a result, I have been laying around and watching a lot of TV. (Wow, I feel lazy.) I mostly watch HGTV and I am learning a lot about home renovation and real estate in the process.

I have also started rereading the Harry Potter series. For the past six months I have been reading Shakespeare plays in an attempt to work my way through the entire works of Shakespeare. However, I have found that I am really not getting much from them this way. Shakespeare is definitely meant to be viewed more than read; you miss a lot of the context when you just read the plays. SO, I have abandoned that--atleast for now. I decided I needed some lighter reading, and since I own all of the Harry Potter books and it has been a long time since I have read them, that is my new summer reading venture.

My creativity has been hampered because I don't have my sewing machine! I tried to make some pajama pants on my mom's machine, but her machine is pretty much broken. That was a short-lived project. However, I did crochet a yoda doll! Greg thought it would be cool, so I looked up a pattern. It was surprisingly easy and it only took me about two hours.

My family is back now, but they were out of town for five days. I was house-sitting and dog-sitting for them while they went on vacation to Pennsylvania. Their dog, Schnitzel, is very neurotic and hyper; he is almost too much for one person to handle. Every morning he does tricks so he can get treats. I took a short clip of him "staying" so everyone could have an idea of what I mean when I say he is hyper:


Besides being pregnant, another reason why I haven't felt well is because of all the smoke and pollution in the Springs right now. There are a few wildfires burning around the state and the largest, the Black Forest fire is about ten miles north of where my parents live. Many reports have said that this is the most devastating fire in  Colorado's history. I'm not really sure how they could know that, but maybe it is the most devastating in recorded history. It has burned about 15,000 acres, 360 homes, and evacuated nearly 38,000 people at this point and it is still not contained. The fires are so bad right now because of the dry climate and the heavy winds. Even though we haven't been evacuated, the air quality is really bad. It is hazy and it smells like a campfire! Luckily, the wind is blowing most of the smoke and the fire away from Colorado Springs right now.

Here is a map of the evacuation area. My parents live in the Briargate area, just to the south of the evacuation.

So, that's my life in a nutshell! I miss Greg a lot and I can't wait to have this baby!

It is that time of day when the house is quiet, the table is half covered in pots, pans, and tuber ware with food scattered across. The car isn’t in the garage and the dog lies sleeping on the blue blanket. The sun lies somewhere back there, behind the cloud over those mountains. July 2025

August 3, 2025 The last three weeks have been a blur as we've had lots of extended family events and excursions. Hinckley's Two Month Update

I can't believe it has only been two months since Hinckley joined our family! It feels like a lot longer than that and he is growing so big way too fast! At his two month check-up today, he weighed 13 lb 12 oz and was 26 1/4 inches long. Apparently he is so tall that he is off the medical charts for his age. Hinckley is such a happy, easy-going baby. He smiles, laughs, and coos a lot. Having him in our family is so fun because he helps us realize the joy of everything once again. He smiles at bright colors or new sounds, enjoys kisses and cuddling, and squeals in delight at seeing nature when we take walks. Yesterday at church it was like he had a rubber neck; for about five minutes he just kept turning back and forth to take it all in--the sights, sounds, and smells. Today he had to get three shots at the doctor's office and even that didn't phase him for long. Oh he screamed and his face got redder than I have ever seen it.
