Easter, Semester's End, and More

Posing in the Easter gear

The go-to pose during prayer time

Picking his nose? No, taking time to smell the flowers.

The blossoms have come and are basically gone, and we are loving the beautiful spring weather! This month has been full of fun stuff. Flying kites, Big Hero 6, listening to SerialWe are excited about the news of our little girl coming in August, and Kas has begun setting some plans for making a blessing dress and some other baby girl items. We went and toured the Orem hospital to see if that is where we want the birth to happen. I think that was my first time in those doors since I arrived over 26 years ago.

Eggs!

Hinckley had his first Easter Egg hunting experience and really enjoyed it. He has also started started requesting "Sunbeam" and "Mission" - songs he is hearing in nursery. It is pretty cute when he says "Beam!" and sort of jumps.

Another highlight this month was the LDS General Conference. School is done for me and I am getting ready for a new schedule doing lots of research. I made this video as a part of my final for Dad's Qualitative class. It is a little dramatic and mystical but I had a great experience making it.

Kassie performed in church on the flute with some singers, it was great! She and H have been enjoying trips to the park and library in the beautiful weather. The baby is starting to kick around and make herself known and things seem to be going well there. We are prepping for our move across town and are feeling really grateful we aren't making another move across the country. Kassie made this really cute reading poof for Hinckley which he loves.

Kas and I also enjoyed a short but fun date to DI this week, and guess what?! I saw my beloved eagle from Mexico. It must have been at DI for at least 5 years now. I know it is mine because I could see the crack where we glued the wing back on :)

Hinckley is putting words together like "open it!" (one of his favorites this week) and has started to imitate everything that he can. He loves to try and lead music at church, and continues to "hug" everything. He has also gained an interest in wrestling. He has become pretty good at pinning a charlie brown doll to the ground and has even engaged his two beloved blankets in some wrestling matches. He and I go for a hike on the Y trail or a run every evening and we both really enjoy that time together.

Have you ever heard StoryCorps? It is one of my favorite YouTube channels and shows on NPR. Now you can do your very own StoryCorps interviews using their new app! I did an interview with my Mom and Grandpa H which you can find HERE. It was a really special experience for me, and I hope to have more like these!

This has been a great month and we are looking forward to May!

Hinckley's Two Month Update

I can't believe it has only been two months since Hinckley joined our family! It feels like a lot longer than that and he is growing so big way too fast! At his two month check-up today, he weighed 13 lb 12 oz and was 26 1/4 inches long. Apparently he is so tall that he is off the medical charts for his age. Hinckley is such a happy, easy-going baby. He smiles, laughs, and coos a lot. Having him in our family is so fun because he helps us realize the joy of everything once again. He smiles at bright colors or new sounds, enjoys kisses and cuddling, and squeals in delight at seeing nature when we take walks. Yesterday at church it was like he had a rubber neck; for about five minutes he just kept turning back and forth to take it all in--the sights, sounds, and smells. Today he had to get three shots at the doctor's office and even that didn't phase him for long. Oh he screamed and his face got redder than I have ever seen it. I held him and fed him afterwards and then ...

So begins our stay in DC

I will try to keep a fairly good record of our exploits and adventures here in the Nation's capital. It is exciting and I am particularly happy about the amazing opportunities there are for pictures! Our trip began at the bus stop outside of the Barlow Center. I took an exterior shot of the Center - the top 2.5 windows on the right are ours. Once on the bus we went past some of the "Occupy" folk which was interesting. And then we came to our stop just outside of Union Station (where I will also be getting off to work at the FJC). Our first grand site was the Capital. So here we are. Washington DC is very different for both Kass and I, but we are finding a way to call it home as quickly as we can. Our first full day in DC consisted of going to Safeway on the bus, eating a modest lunch, and then going to the the Mall for the second time. We began at the capital building and headed towards the Lincoln Memorial (2 miles) before walking home another 2 miles or so. Our first st...

O.T.: Our Town

This evening I watched O.T.: Our Town , a documentary about high school students in Compton putting on Wilder's classic play at an institution where no drama event has been held in over 20 years.    A few things stood out to me about the film including the excellent characters, the unique commentary on the human condition, and the filmmaker's ability to raise the stakes.             The students and teachers that are pictured in O.T. were very dynamic and interesting. I appreciate the filmmakers avoiding trying to classify each student into a group such as  "jocks" or a "nerds".  Instead a very honest and genuine portrait was captured as the filmmakers followed individual students into their homes and interacted with their family and friends. The insight and voice of the students themselves made this fi...
