This was the last week of school! Greyson had his “preschool graduation” on Tuesday which Kassie said was really cute. He won the "snake award" because he is always stretching his mind. When reading a spotlight about him his teacher reported, "When Greyson grows up he wants to be the guy who crawls in vents so he can find mice and mouses." They sang songs and did other cute things.

Wednesday was the Dry Creek Elementary end-of-year dance festival where each grade did a little dance. Hinckley and Addie looked like they were having lots of fun! We couldn’t see H very well as he was at the back but he jumped up and down pretty high so we could see his hands waving. Greyson sat still and quiet for most of the thing which was sort of a miracle. He is getting older.

One evening this week the kids were playing in the backyard and heard an ice cream truck come by. They ran for their money jars and all got popsicles. They were ecstatic about that! Pretty excited to have their first ice cream truck experience. I appreciated that they used their own money, and Hinckley talked about it in a way that had me confident that he is learning some good money habits…maybe.

Hinckley and Greyson were out playing in the dirt/pit before 7:30 a.m. on first day of summer break! Hinckley has big ideas to build a “house” by paving wood slats with mud. He says he feels “manly” out there working on his pit and wonders if he will be the first kid ever to build a house. It is pretty cute. He is obsessed with the idea, and we went to Lowe’s and found a stack of some free wood from their junk pile that he can use which he was pretty excited about. He kept saying, “This place does NOT disappoint!”

The kids were very excited to have a sleepover in Hinckley's room Friday night. In the morning we had treat cold cereal and old cartoons. They really got a kick out of the Roadrunner/Cayote cartoons and also wanted to watch some Casper and Donald Duck. Greyson and I went on a hike to Bettle Creek Falls for our date and then ate a treat at Avenue Bakery. He was very cute the whole time on the hike, pointing at various cliffs and peaks and asking about them. He wondered if the Grinch lived there, or if the Cave of Wonders was over here. He found some rocks he loved and was also eager to pose for pictures. It was a beautiful hike with all the greenery out and wildflowers blooming. We got back to the car right when it started to rain a bit so that was good timing. At the bakery, he kept changing what he wanted every 1-2 seconds right up until I ordered the muffin/cupcake thing that we split.

Addie tried her hand at using our new house phone on Saturday to call a friend. I texted the friend’s mom a few minutes before to give her a warning. Addie did pretty well! She set up the playdate and then ran over to the friend’s house at 10:00. It was pretty cute. We found a service called MagicJack that is a home phone but it runs off the Internet so it is only like 50.00 a year. Should be a good resource for our kids as they get older.

We had a packed week as school and current extracurriculars come to a close. Addie had her last soccer game on Saturday, Hinckley his last tennis practice, and Greyson had a blast going bowling with his preschool class (and parents) to celebrate the end of the year.

Bowling fun

Kassie went to UVU this week and took the TEAS test which is a requirement to apply to Nursing programs. She did incredibly well (top 99% in the country)! We are thinking pretty seriously about her starting that program if she is accepted to the UVU Nursing program for this fall.

Friday the kids and I enjoyed seeing The Spirit of the Candy Bomber and The Spirit of Freedom along with some of the family members who were there at the new terminal in the Provo Airport. Pretty amazing! On Saturday I conducted the program for two convert baptisms in our ward for a 12 and 14-year-old who the missionaries have been teaching. It was pretty special to see and I am hoping the ward can rally around them and their parents and help them keep the spiritual momentum President Nelson has talked about.

With the lighter days and warmer weather, the kids are enjoying the tramp again, watching the garden for ladybugs, and digging their pit to new depths. Everyone is ecstatic about the coming summer schedule as we enter the last few days of school this week!

This week we got one step closer to summertime and everyone is really feeling the Spring vibes.

Addie had two soccer games which went pretty well. She got stepped on by another girl’s cleats at her Thursday night game but after a few tears, she was able to get back on the field and keep playing which I was really excited about. She has been writing many cute and sweet notes to her friends and family members lately and it is fun to be able to communicate with her that way. She loves setting out her clothes the night before school to make a "little girl" out of them. She is also excited about the prayer pillow Kassie made for her to use for morning prayer reminders and covered it with cute pictures. We had a fun date going to Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point for the baby animal's birthday celebration. She oohed and awed at the baby goats and bunnies, rode on “Big Mama” the pony, and we both enjoyed some chocolate cake without forks.

Hinckley continues to work on drawing pictures and stories in his DIY Gravity Falls journals that he made patterned after the official Journal Number 3 from the TV show. He loves drawing creepy crazy monsters and things and has looped in some friends at school to help him come up with even more original ideas (I liked my idea of carpet piranas). He enjoyed Tennis lessons on Saturday, exultant after winning a small forehand/backhand game with his class. He is learning patience, kindness, and other relational skills - sometimes the hard way as we see from fairly regular emails from his teacher. He continues reading a ton and is excited about the summer. He had a blast with Greyson and Kassie on Saturday exploring random deer trails in the underbrush near Utah Lake yesterday and didn't notice how Greyson was following his every action (picking up a stick, throwing it off to the side, etc.).

Morning Hairdo

Greyson and Kassie explored some potential preschool and daycare options as we consider school programs Kassie is considering. Greyson loves visiting these places and always has a lot to say about them. He has been fostering his "evil" streak lately by peeing in random places (his closet, the garage, outside...). We hope this is a phase that passes quickly. I prefer less expensive "evil plans", like yesterday when we went to a kindergarten playground no one was on. He thought that was pretty cool and a very important secret. He has so much energy and idolizes his siblings. He loves doing whatever his brother or sister tells him to do, and wants to be just like them!

I worked on a talk that I will give in Sacrament meeting today about thoughts, beliefs, and truth. Check it out here if you'd like! In there I mention that I'm meeting with a therapist which some of you may already be aware of. It has been helpful to have someone to talk through things who isn't attached to my everyday life and circumstances. I am doing well and am grateful for the many blessings our family enjoys.

We had a full fun week and hope all had great celebrations today for the wonderful mothers. The kids adjusted pretty well going back to school after the fun trip the week before. We had soccer games, music performances, tennis practice, lots of climbing in forbidden places (Greyson discovered an interest in literally trying to climb the lilac bush...), and hitting things with lightsabers.

Kassie and Hinckley had a fun date going to see The Bad Guys in the theater, and I got to go to "Books and Buddies" with Addie at her school and read books. She has really become quite the artist, drawing up a storm to the point she can draw characters from Gravity Falls (the latest trending show in our house) from memory. In church today she drew all her family members in merperson form. Hinckley got a Gravity Falls book he has been absorbed in all week.

Our New Diet

Life is good! Maybe our trials have changed our attitude or maybe things really have gotten better. Either way, 2014 is already looking happy, bright, and beautiful! Greg LOVES his new job. The environment is great and he likes all of his co-workers. Plus, he gets to make films for work! As a media arts major, it is pretty hard to land a job with a steady paycheck right out of college. This one just kind of fell into Greg's lap. The stark contrast between his previous job as a teacher and this one is like night and day. And believe me, the ripple effect of this has spilled over into our home; it's like a breath of fresh air! Hinckley has been very active lately and is already starting to assert his independence. He is 17 1/2 pounds and 28 inches tall. He just discovered how much he loves rolling over, so he does it all the time now. I think he would like to be running and on the move if he only knew how to do it! He also loves food. So far he has only eaten rice cereal

Almost There!

Tomorrow is our baby's due date! We don't think he will come tomorrow, but one never knows. Here are some pics from this week. School is going pretty well for me, though I transition to writing/reading from doing math for the past two weeks so I am a little nervous about that. The view from the bus just before I get off and start teaching for the day. Usually I am barely awake at this point.  Awesome panorama of our classroom. It has taken a lot of work to get all this stuff up, but it could still use lots more! Here is a view of the front of the classroom, along with our space ship behavior chart and so forth.  I decided to see what would happen if I didn't shave during the week This was the result.  Kas is feeling quite big, and ready for the man child to come out! This week Kas learned how to make homemade yogurt - or at least how to extend the yogurt you already have.  The latest creative masterpiece from Kassie is this little elep

The final product of "make me a match" that I labored over exceedingly. I was actually sort of unhappy with it all not because of the performances of anyone but mainly just the story. We had to write all so quickly and the re-write it time after time and then storyboard it and really break it down. In all this rush I didn't realize till I was actually shooting it that I really didn't care much for the story as a whole and thus my motivation suffered greatly. I don't think I need to tell epic dramatic tales to care about them but I do want to have a strong point and also a specific conflict or issue that is approached and resolved. I am starting a screen writing class tomorrow and possibly I will gain some insights as to how to develop good stories. Ones that I care about. I don't know why I feel so interested in telling stories - particularly in that I haven't felt very confident with the stories I have come up with. It is extremely hard for me to come up
