Kassie returned to his on Tuesday and we were all happy to have her back! It was great to have Nana's help while Kassie was out.

We were set to return to a routine when Hinckley and Addie were struck down with sickness. Not sure what it was but Hinckley was throwing up and Addie's nose got so stuffy she resorted to crying on the floor in fits of discouragement. While the sickness is never fun, it did simplify the week with no Tennis practice, Soccer games or practice, or boys activities for Hinckley. We had parent-teacher conferences and all three kids had glowing reviews from their teachers and so good things for them to work on.

As a family we signed up for the "stronger families project" sponsored by UVU which is an 8 week course for the whole family you attend in person. We had our first one this past week and it seemed to be fairly positive for everyone. Greyson really liked it because for his age group he just played games and activities the whole time. They split us up into groups for the first part (adults, teens, 10-12 yr, 8-9 yr, 5-7 yr, and 5 below) and then the second part we are all together. The kids are especially excited because they get to stay up late as we don't get home till about 30 minutes after their bedtime.

The other big thing this week is we finally finished our big yard strip project and all the rock, plants, and irrigation are in place which feels amazing! I hope it all stays put and works out well. It has been quite the physical and psychological feat!

This week Kassie departed on a trip with her Mom and sisters and Nana has been supporting me on the home front with the kids. Greyson has enjoyed many trips to various parks to practice his climbing and jumping. He was very excited to have done a few stretches of monkey bars without falling off, he is getting stronger and stronger!

Addie had Nana at her classroom earlier this week as a part of a class "grandparent tea party". It was a highlight for sure! Her soccer game was in the rain but she had a lot of fun with a friend singing and chanting as they twirled around on the sidelines in between substitutions. She and Greyson and I went with Nana and Sadie and Jack to a candy drop at Jamestown where they all got big candy bars. She really enjoyed seeing many of grandpa's things laid out at 1220 where Nana is working hard to organize them. "It is like a museum!"

Hinckley enjoyed going to an Eye Center with Nana and Greyson for an open house and tour. Grandpa H's eyes were donated there I believe and the boys enjoyed looking through microscopes and eating fries from a food truck. We had a lot of fun at Nana's on Saturday picking grapes and raspberries and Hinckley was especially interested in how grape juice is made. We got to drink some hot juice right off the vine!

Kassie will be returning on Tuesday and is having a great time in Scotland. We miss her and everyone is excited to have her back soon!

September 11, 2022
September is in full swing! We had a good family service activity at the Lehi Rec Center to commemorate 9/11 on Saturday. The kids really enjoyed putting together reading buddy kits for a local school and also writing notes/drawing pictures for seniors in a nearby care facility.

Hinckley tried out his goal this week to bike to Maverik after school so he could buy some treats. He got mixed up and didn’t have enough money for what he wanted to buy, and the cashier actually bought everything for him with his own money. Hinckley was really confused and upset about it all, thinking maybe he did something wrong. Hopefully he won't be too traumatized to try and continue learning how to do things on his own. He seems to really be enjoying the newfound freedom of bike riding. We finished the final Lord of the Rings movie with him and I enjoyed rewatching all of those very much! Hinckley started tennis this week and despite some frustration seemed to enjoy it. He and Kassie went and hit a bunch of forehand shots on Saturday to get some extra practice in.

Addie loves playing many imaginary games and has really gotten into her book about unicorns. She continues to draw pictures everyday and writes notes to her friends. Soccer is going well and adds to her load by the end of the week leaving her very tired and unstable. That said, she had a great time playing with Greyson and her friend Brooke this Saturday outside. She picked strawberries and washed and cut them for everyone for their outside tea party.

Addie's bridge

Greyson is really interested in swear words which he has been eagerly trying to learn from Addie or anyone else. He also enjoys finding ways to get the attention of his siblings in ways that usually end with fists and screams. He is loving preschool and learning more about writing and letters and such. He has built up quite the mental model of parks in the area and is often requesting specific parks in order to hone his obstacle-climbing abilities. He had a blast with a friend this week playing at the Pleasant Grove Discovery park for nearly 2 hours while the Moms enjoyed a long uninterrupted visit.

We made lots of progress on the xeriscaping project, all the plants are in the ground! We still have some pressure issues with the irrigation system but if we can get that resolved this week it will just be the rock left before we can be done with this. It has been a ton of work, and though I am happy we are doing it...I don't know if I would have done it had I known what would have been required. I think much of life is like that though haha.

September 4, 2022

It is hard to believe that August is over! This week was dominated by the quest to get rid of our ripped up sod. After getting some insanely high quotes we decided to rent a truck from Uhaul and get it done. As of Saturday night we got it all hauled away. Phew! The kids kept busy this week with soccer, climbing on things, fighting with each other, playing with friends and school. We said goodbye to Darth Vader - Hincklely’s fish, who, after 2 weeks of steady decline, finally kicked the bucket. Greyson and Hincklely helped shovel a small hole where Hinckley’s pit used to be and we buried him with a few words of respect and love. I had my final Improv class of Improv 101 and am debating whether I should take the next one (102). It has been really fun and enjoyable.

Swimmer Addie - we had a fun date to the AF pool!

Hinckley's Two Month Update

I can't believe it has only been two months since Hinckley joined our family! It feels like a lot longer than that and he is growing so big way too fast! At his two month check-up today, he weighed 13 lb 12 oz and was 26 1/4 inches long. Apparently he is so tall that he is off the medical charts for his age. Hinckley is such a happy, easy-going baby. He smiles, laughs, and coos a lot. Having him in our family is so fun because he helps us realize the joy of everything once again. He smiles at bright colors or new sounds, enjoys kisses and cuddling, and squeals in delight at seeing nature when we take walks. Yesterday at church it was like he had a rubber neck; for about five minutes he just kept turning back and forth to take it all in--the sights, sounds, and smells. Today he had to get three shots at the doctor's office and even that didn't phase him for long. Oh he screamed and his face got redder than I have ever seen it. I held him and fed him afterwards and then ...

TMA 185 3 minute film

The final product of "make me a match" that I labored over exceedingly. I was actually sort of unhappy with it all not because of the performances of anyone but mainly just the story. We had to write all so quickly and the re-write it time after time and then storyboard it and really break it down. In all this rush I didn't realize till I was actually shooting it that I really didn't care much for the story as a whole and thus my motivation suffered greatly. I don't think I need to tell epic dramatic tales to care about them but I do want to have a strong point and also a specific conflict or issue that is approached and resolved. I am starting a screen writing class tomorrow and possibly I will gain some insights as to how to develop good stories. Ones that I care about. I don't know why I feel so interested in telling stories - particularly in that I haven't felt very confident with the stories I have come up with. It is extremely hard for me to come up ...

Dishes

It is that time of day when the house is quiet, the table is half covered in pots, pans, and tuber ware with food scattered across. The car isn’t in the garage and the dog lies sleeping on the blue blanket. The sun lies somewhere back there, behind the cloud over those mountains. It makes some nice gold colors on the rocky face of the mountains outside of the window. I guess it is so nice because at this time of year there is a lot of plants and flowers in the back yard so the gold makes it seem sort of dreamlike. Yeah, I’ll do em I guess. Call it being nice or being bored. Does it matter? Approaching the sink I am nipped by the denting smell. The eggshells, scraps of mango, carrot peel, and chunks of tofu drip in my fingers. Oh yes, the trash is under the sink these days. Drip once, drip twice on the floor. The water in the frying pan trembles, shaking the crusty flakes of burnt egg. Yogurt and peanu...
